Journal Rappé: rap the news

Journal Rappé, as its name suggests, is a news broadcasting programme where presenters Xuman and Keyti and their correspondents rap the news stories.

This combination of a history of hip-hop and the opportunities of new technologies constitutes a key example of the vibrant creativity but also of the social commitment of artists in Senegal. Its transmedia format, disseminated across multiple platforms (radio, TV and the Internet) offers a space where to contest hegemonic media and political discourses.

Knowledge sharing through Rap

Every week topics such as good governance, terrorism, health policies, youth civic engagement, human rights, education, gender issues, freedom of expression, etc. are addressed by the two rappers who review the Senegalese and international news.

The show also discusses bills passed by the Senegalese parliament in order to allow an easy understanding of what is at stake.

The choice of two rappers to approach these topics with satire has expanded their audience and reached an audience that far exceeds the hip-hop community today.

Collaborations in other African coutries

After four successful seasons with an increase in the number of viewers each year and the installation of the concept in 2015 in Côte d’Ivoire, Journal Rappé is, now more than ever, creative and pushes the limits of the topics it covers to reach new audiences.

In 2017, collaborations were established in Cameroon, Burkina Faso and Mali with rappers to whom audiovisual material was given to cover the news of the different countries.
